Understanding the Economic Calendar

What is the Economic Calendar?

The economic calendar tracks scheduled releases of economic data, central bank decisions, and other events that can cause significant price movements in the forex market. Traders use it to anticipate volatility and plan their trades around key releases.

Impact Levels

High Impact

Interest rate decisions, NFP, GDP. Expect large moves and widened spreads.

Medium Impact

PMI, retail sales, employment data. Moderate volatility expected.

Low Impact

Minor data releases. Usually minimal market impact unless a surprise.

Tips for Trading the News

Avoid opening new positions just before high-impact releases unless you have a specific news-trading strategy. Spreads widen and slippage increases around major events. Many traders prefer to wait for the dust to settle before entering trades.
